South Chandler Community…It’s that time of year again…The Ostrich Festival is BACK!
March 13-15th at Tumbleweed Park the annual Ostrich Festival will be in full swing. Come down and celebrate our lovely Arizona Spring weather and enjoy Ostrich races, Music concerts, amusement rides, vendor booths and of course all of the fantastic food.
If you have lived in the South Chandler community and haven’t been to the Ostrich Festival, it really is a long running history of our town and you should experience it. Ostrich ranching was once a prominent part of life in the South Chandler community.
Chandler and Maricopa County led the nation in raising ostriches for their stylish and expensive plumes. The community decided to celebrate this history with creating the ostrich festival in 1989.
Two Hollywood tidbits for you are that 1) The festival served as a backdrop in the 1995 Whitney Houston film, “Waiting to Exhale”. 2) The festival was also portrayed in a Harlequin Romance novel title, “Lover Boy.”
Who knew our little town of South Chandler was so widely recognized for its community of Ostriches?
And if you don’t already live in the community of South Chandler but are thinking about moving here, this is a great way to meet the people of Chandler and experience what the town has to offer.
