Thinking of downsizing?

Are you thinking of downsizing?  If so, maybe a condo or townhome is your next move.  Have you thought through the pros and cons?  Several years ago, my husband and I bought a home in a Planned Unit Develoment.  For us, the main adjustment was in getting used to having community rules – Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions or CC&Rs. Even though we recognized the rules are meant to help in maintaining the value of the homes, it still took some getting used to. Another consideration was the monthly maintenance fee. Many of these communities have swimming pools, clubhouses and even on site gyms all included with the monthly fees. This is a big plus in helping maintain a healthy lifestyle.  I think you’ll agree, it’s not a problem no longer needing to shovel snow during the winter or mow and trim the grass during the summer.  For many, the time freedom is well worth adhering to the Home Owners Association rules and the monthly fees are worth the amenities.

Basically, when you’re ready to simplify your life, make time to pursue your dreams, spend more time with your family….you’re ready to downsize! Although it’s currently a buyer’s market, so may not be the best time to sell, rentals are in high demand.  If you decide to buy now taking advantage of the incredible prices and low rates, you may choose to rent your home until the market improves.  Becoming a landlord may become part of your investment strategy.

Finally, there’s some good news about the housing market.  Fortune Magazine released their April issue that declares that housing is back in their cover story, “The Return of Real Estate.”  The article tells consumers what we’ve been trying to tell them for some time,  “Forget stocks. Don’t bet on gold. After four years of plunging home prices, the most attractive asset class in America is housing.“  CLICK HERE for the full story.
