Holiday Oasis at the Armory Theater

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

Portland Center Stage is having some fun functions at the Armory Theater for the big shopping weekend after Thanksgiving.  The theater will be open on Saturday the 27th as a shopping oasis in the middle of all the shopping chaos.

Stop in for free 15 minute chair massages and a drink.  Among other things, they’ll have a gift wrapping station and live jazz music a couple times throughout the day.

PCS is promoting their upcoming play A Christmas Story.  Click here for the full scoop and schedule of activities:  Holiday Oasis

Broadway Bridge Closure

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

It looks like the Broadway Bridge is about to re-open this weekend.  The bridge was slated to be closed through September 3rd, and I wanted to know what would be open on the 4th.  I was hoping that work on the bridge would be wrapping up and that all lanes would be open for traffic.  I checked on portlandstreetcar.org and that isn’t going to be the case.  From September 4th 2010 until June 30th 2011 (!!!) this is what we can expect:

September 4, 2010 – June 30, 2011 – Broadway Bridge construction

  • Expect lane closures with one lane in each direction maintained.
  • The bridge will have a height limitation of 12’0” as well as narrowed lanes.
  • The #9 bus will be re-routed across the Steel Bridge during this work.
  • RV’s and large vehicles should detour because of narrow lanes.
  • Bicycle and pedestrian access will be maintained on the south sidewalk, please use caution in work zones.
  • The north sidewalk will reopen September 17, 2010.

Portland’s Sunday Parkways and Hawthorne Street Fair 2010

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

This Sunday (August 15th)  is the Sunday Parkways for the Southeast area and it’s running in conjunction with the Hawthorne Street Fair.

The route for the bike ride loops around the Hawthorne/Belmont area from Lincoln to Ankeny and from 16th to 52nd with stops in Laurelhurst Park, Sunnyside Park and Colonel Summers Park.  Click here for a brochure and more event details:  www.PortlandSundayParkways.org

You can also find a map of the bike route here:  http://www.portlandonline.com/transportation/index.cfm?c=51515&a=309920

In addition to the vendors and entertainment that will be found at these three parks, you can also enjoy that everything going on at the Hawthorne Street Fair, which will be in full swing from 11:00 and 5:00 and will be concentrated in the area between 30th and 43rd Avenues.  Although, I imagine that there will be plenty of goings-on up and down Hawthorne West of 50th.  Below is the line-up of musicians that I found at www.thinkhawthorne.com.  Click here for a full list of events and vendors:  http://thinkhawthorne.com/happenings/
