WHY YOU SHOULD LIVE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

I have lived in the Austin, Texas area for 30 years now and I don’t think I would want to live anywhere else.  You cannot even imagine all the things there are to do around the Austin area.  From live music to bats flying out at sundown you will always find something going on in Austin and the surrounding areas that will be of interest to you.

Austin, Texas is known as the Live Music Capital of the World.  During our annual event called South by Southwest (SXSW) any and every venue has a live band playing all around the city.  You can even find musicians playing on the street during SXSW.  It’s a very exciting time.  A week or so before SXSW we host the Austin Film Festival where many famous artists come to show their original films and receive awards at the end of the festival.

March is one of the best times to be in Austin, not only because of all the exciting events but the weather is wonderfully mild at this time, but you will marvel at the Austin, Texas landscape in April.  After the rains in the Winter months, April wildflowers bloom everywhere.  Blue Bonnets, the Texas State Flower, are the most prevelant and more  likely than not, you will see families young and old alike sitting in the middle of a patch of Blue Bonnets taking their pictures. Driving around town and out in the Hill Country is a sight for the eyes.

The Austin and Central Texas area abound in lakes.  Lake Travis, Lake Austin and Lady Bird Lake are just part of the Highland Lakes Chain. I think our Lady Bird Lake in the heart of Austin is the prettiest lake.  The city makes sure of it by keeping it clean for residents to enjoy, especially at Zilker Park on of the many city parks in Austin.  Zilker boasts the best swimming pool fed by natural springs called Barton Springs Pool.  You will see swimmers there all year round, but be careful because it is COLD!

I bet you were wondering about the bats?  Well every evening in the summer if you are at the Congress Avenue Bridge that crosses Lady Bird Lake you can see the Largest Urban Colony of Bats in the US fly out from under the bridge.  It is a wonderful sight to behold.  TGI Friday’s in the Raddison Hotel has a wonderful deck where you can sit and enjoy the evening while waiting for the bats to fly.  What a great way to spend a warm summer night in Austin.

There is so much more happenings and great things about Austin, Texas but you will have to wait until next time to hear more.  So until then see ya later ya’ll.
