Postal officials announced today that the Pocatello Bannock Station located at 102 S. Main St., is no longer being considered for consolidation.

“We looked at the information gathered and determined that we would not pursue this consolidation,” said USPS District Manager, Customer Relations Robert Vunder.

The studies considered many things, including impacts to customer access, employees, cost savings, and service standards, along with reviews of the availability of alternate retail services, facility space, and other operational items.

“Our commitment to customer service is paramount,” said Vunder. “We will continue to provide the dependable service our customers need. We also will keep a balance with our critical focus on reducing costs so that service is not diminished.”

Many people in Pocatello really fought to keep this open and with much success!

For the 6th year in a row Pocatello has made the Forbes Best Small Places of Business and Careers. FDI Magazine ranked the Gate City as one of the best places to do business and economic potential. FDI magazine published the results of its North American cities of the future for 2009-2010.

Pocatello was recognized in several micro cities categories including being ranked number seven micro city of the future. In the micro cities category of FDI magazine meaning a population of less than 100,000, Pocatello ranked number two in best economic potential, number five in best quality of life and was recognized in a subcategory as a top 5 city for lowest unemployment rate. That should translate very well to the real estate market in and around the Gate City.

Pocatello Mayor Roger Chase says the city has a very bright future and the rankings help to put the Gate City in the national spotlight.

The American Recovery Act 2009 Details/First Time Home Buyer Credit

Posted by Jay Christensen | on Friday, April 24th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Category: First Time Home-Buyers.

The tax credit is for first-time home buyers only. For the tax credit program, the IRS defines a first-time home buyer as someone who has not owned a principal residence during the three-year period prior to the purchase.

  • The tax credit does not have to be repaid.
  • The tax credit is equal to 10 percent of the home’s purchase price up to a maximum of $8,000.
  • The credit is available for homes purchased on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
  • Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.

Check out the following links for more information on this great incentive the government has provided. This act should put new buyers in the market which is also good for sellers and the buyers get the credit so it really is a win-win for everyone.
