How to Prepare to Buy Your First Home

Once you’ve made the decision to purchase your first home, you’ll probably be wondering what to do next. Getting your finances in order and understanding how much money you will have to spend on a home are some of the crucial first steps.

Order a copy of your credit report and review it to make sure there are no mistakes that may prohibit you from getting the proper loan. Payoff any outstanding debt or clean-up other areas of payments that you think may result in a better credit score. When you are confident with your credit situation, take some time to calculate your current expenses (credit card debt, auto loan, school loans, phone bills, etc.) and estimate how much you can reasonably afford. Locate and organize all the paperwork that a bank or lender will need to examine your eligibility for a loan, including bank statements and identifying documents.

It’s also important to get the costs on what your utility and other bills would be in a home such as water, electricity, heating, etc. Many people underestimate how costly the utilities can add up and how much it can vary in different locations, so try to have a firm grasp on what the charges may run you.

These are all areas that I can assist you with and point you in the right direction to help you find the home of your dreams while staying in your budget. Please give me a call and allow me to help you today!
