Hurricane season is always on the minds of all who live along the Gulf and inland. Those who are able to afford hurricane shutters for windows and doors for their home will do so. Another alternative for home improvement is a film made by 3M Corporation. I had heard great things about this product and am considering having my own windows done. This Window Film holds the interior glass safely in place even if the exterior pane breaks. A recent buyer that purchased a home through me a few months ago just had this film done on all the windows in the new home.
According to the 3M website there is also a tax credit for window film and a selection of different films. This coverage will also have a positive impact on energy bills. ” Going Green” is where everything is headed whether it’s a new home, upgrading an existing home or fuel for cars and buildings, this type of film seems to fit into the scheme of things to come for numerous reasons.

Dear Ms. Bristow,
I am a window film dealer in Sarasota (in business 36 years) who happened to see your blog on safety film for hurricane protection. It is interesting to see that because people buy post it notes and masking tape that they stop their research at 3M; assuming their products to be the best, when there are far stronger films in the marketplace that pass ASTM missile level C testing. There are many reputable dealers who carry such products by Bekaert (Armorcoat), Solutia (Llumar Magnum), Madico, and others – all of whom pass the ASTM test! In addition, you can only qualify for the tax credit if you have wood or vinyl-framed insulated (double pane) window units – a rare find in Florida. To be fair you should encourage people to explore the marketplace for all the quality film products available. There is NOTHING that 3M offers the market that is any better than any other manufacurer’s, either in quality, performance, or warranty. Thanks for your consideration.
