Quick Tip for Home Improvement During Hurricane Season

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Hurricane season is always on the minds of all who live along the Gulf and inland. Those who are able to afford hurricane shutters for windows and doors for their home will do so. Another alternative for home improvement is a film made by 3M Corporation. I had heard great things about this product and am considering having my own windows done. This Window Film holds the interior glass safely in place even if the exterior pane breaks. A recent buyer that purchased a home through me a few months ago just had this film done on all the windows in the new home.

According to the 3M website there is also a tax credit for window film and a selection of different films. This coverage will also have a positive impact on energy bills. ” Going Green” is where everything is headed whether it’s a new home, upgrading an existing home or fuel for cars and buildings, this type of film seems to fit into the scheme of things to come for numerous reasons.

July 4th is Upon Pensacola!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

June is nearly over and July 4th celebrations are next upcoming event. This past weekend the Grande Lagoon Yacht club held their yearly Fishing Rodeo (June 19,-21st) and the Billfish Tournament begins on July 2 – 5th.

Residents and visitors alike have many things to enjoy. There will be a free concerts, vendors with freshly made, mouthwatering foods of all kinds, art displays, fireworks over Pensacola Bay which can be seen for miles, home parties and celebrations at the bars and restaurants.

This is the 450th celebration of our city of Five Flags. This year will be one of the greatest celebrations. If anyone plans to visit and has not made lodging arrangements, rooms may already be booked. Many tourists come back again and again. They book their reservations for the next year before they leave to go back home to assure accommodations. The Blue Angels fly on the 11th of July at Pensacola Beach so many visitors take the whole week as a vacation. Make the week a family affair to remember.

Hurricane Season Begins June 1

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Hurricane season begins June 1 and technically lasts to November 30…Once a tropical storm or hurricane finds its’ way through the Yucatan Peninsula, the natural path is into Gulf of Mexico. Looking at the shape of the Gulf one can see why somewhere along the coastline anywhere from the tip of Florida to Mexico. When purchasing a home, the first year homeowner insurance must be paid up front. During the summer and fall months insurance companies suspend issuing those policies one a storm enters the Gulf of Mexico.

Closings will be delayed until the storm has an undeniable direction as to where it will hit. I have lived in many different areas and would rather go through a hurricane than months of tornadoes spawning with little to no warning or what seems to be endless cold, snowy, dreary winters or earthquakes and rivers that overflow and flood fairly regularly.

Finding a home or condominium along the Panhandle from Perdido Key and Pensacola to Seaside and east that you will enjoy is easy. With so many homes to choose from the problem anyone has is “which one?”

For first time home buyers (not owning a home for the past 3 years) this is the year to make that purchase. The government is giving an $8,000 credit, prices are down and mortgage rates are great.

Buyers looking for higher priced waterfront or golf course condominiums now is the time to make that purchase also although financing is a bit more challenging. Units with gorgeous views along powder sugar white sand beaches are numerous. You don’t have to go south to have clear, emerald green water which, when the sun sets in the west, casts a hypnotic scene having the appearance of “diamonds dancing on the waves”. Living in Pensacola with sunshine more than 300 days a year and beaches that stretch for miles, makes this area as close to Paradise as one can be without leaving the states.
