Neighborhood and Community Information

Would you like to move to Olympia Washington? What is this place Olympia, Washington in Thurston County and what do the locals consider it to be? Olympia is first and foremost the Capitol City of the State of Washington. You may see Governor Christine Gregoire or many local politicians at local social events. The State of Washington is a major employer of the locals. The geography of the area is beautiful with many lakes, rivers and Puget Sound Saltwater. Boaters and Fishermen will consider this a little slice of heaven. A new Cabela’s store just opened in the area for all you sports enthusiasts. The Olympia area is diverse with forests, farmlands and several Thurston County cities to include Olympia. Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm, Rochester and Tenino. My personal website allows you to search real estate homes for sale by area of your choice. You will find links there to other information such as schools and local events. City boundaries of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater abut each other in several locations and locals travel between one and the other unaware they have left one city entity and traveled to another.

A real estate client who moved here from Connecticut a few years ago stated, “Olympia reminded her of San Francisco a few years ago.” It is a small downtown area on Puget Sound waterfront with marinas, shops and restaurants. Olympia is a friendly place. We have our own coffee roasters, Batdorf and Bronson which gives regular tastings and tours as well as Starbucks shops. We have a great Farmer’s Market downtown where local vendors sell vegetables, flowers, arts, crafts and jewelry. Music is provided by live bands and several restaurants provide food for your lunch.

Listening to President Obama’s speech last night, February 9, 2009, I realize as a nation we have to pull together to keep people employed and credit flowing. It is the heart of the people who will lead us back to financial prosperity. Americans are full of hope and innovation. Neighbors reaching out to help neighbors is heart warming. It is the creative enterprising mind of individuals who get a good idea and won’t give up on it who always succeed in the end.

Olympia is a healthy place to live compared to so many other places in the country. We have good educational opportunities with Evergreen State College, Saint Martin’s University, and South Puget Sound Community College.
