TRAIL GUIDE- A Guide to the Equestrian Trails of the Palos Verdes Peninsula

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

If you love to walk or ride horses, this is a great guide to the trails of Palos Verdes.  It’s a guidebook put out by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Horsemens’ Association and it shows all of the trails running through the Peninsula via aerial views.  It also includes the names, length and elevation of the trails. Included are tips about walking and riding the trails.  You can buy it at the Lomita Feed Store for $20.  Located at 24403 Narbonne in Lomita, they only take checks or cash for the book. This would make a great gift too!

Why Should You Live in Palos Verdes?

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

If you are looking to find your next home in the Los Angeles area, here are some things to consider about the Palos Verdes Peninsula:

The schools are known for their excellence and have won many California Distinguished School awards.

Palos Verdes manages to retain a small town atmosphere and yet, remains within commuting distance to downtown Los Angeles.

The peninsula is a very family oriented community with the many social activities centered on families. Sports, theater, horseback riding, and other extracurricular activities are venues for social gatherings.

There is an active retired citizens’ network on the peninsula that features lectures, tours, cultural activities and social interaction.

The diverse population, incorporating many cultural groups, allows for a myriad of opportunities to interact with people from all over the world.

With five shopping centers, virtually all neighborhoods are within minutes from “town”.

Palos Verdes has mild temperatures year round and while downtown Los Angeles sizzles in the summer, the ocean breezes keep the peninsula pleasantly cooler.

Almost anywhere you go on the peninsula, there are stunning views of the ocean, Catalina Island and the coastline.

The crime rate is extremely low by comparison to most cities in the Great Los Angeles area.

On Sundays, the Peninsula Farmers’ Market is a great place to buy fresh, organic produce and meet your neighbors. It is located at the Peninsula Center parking lot from 8-1.

The Ice Capades skating rink and Regal Theatres are popular places for children and adults to spend the day with their friends.

The Norris Theater continuously attracts top name performers and always produces a dynamic season of events.

With miles of horse trails, the peninsula is an equestrian’s paradise.

Three beaches along the coast met the needs of most sun and water enthusiasts: Abalone Cove is the place to visit tidepools, Hagerty Cove is a surfers’ haven and RAT (Right After Torrance) is the place to surf, boogie board and swim.

If you like wildlife, Palos Verdes has a flourishing population of peacocks, raccoons, birds, possums, skunks and deer.

There are fantastic parks laced throughout the Palos Verdes Peninsula and open space designed for public enjoyment and use.

There is an intricate trail system throughout the peninsula and nature walks are featured weekly by the Palos Verdes Conservancy.

Grocery shopping is actually a pleasure because of the variety of choices that exist within the community: Ralph’s Market, Pavilion’s, Trader Joe’s, Bristol Farms, Malaga Cove Market, and Lunada Bay Market. If you don’t want to leave home to shop, Von’s delivers.

In the summer, you can sit at Point Vicente Park and see the night divers in the water just below the cliffs.

Palos Verdes is a whale watching spot. During the migratory seasons, you can watch the whale watchers who post themselves along Palos Verdes Drive South keeping official counts of the number of whales passing by. Visit the Pt. Vicente Interpretive Center and chat with the Whale spotters.

On a clear day, you can see the Santa Monica and San Gabriel Mountains beyond downtown Los Angeles from the top of the peninsula.

On Christmas Eve, Santa Claus arrives on a fire engine in Palos Verdes Estates and heads a procession of fire vehicles down the hill to Malaga Cove Plaza where Santa meets waiting children who have last minute requests to discuss with him.
Because of the low crime, spectacular scenery, and small town atmosphere, it is always a good time to buy a home on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

With no industry, Palos Verdes is one of the most picturesque areas in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Situated on the coast, the peninsula has very good air quality all year.
