Ogden, Utah has some great news!

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

The Ogden metropolitan area added jobs faster than virtually all other major metropolitan areas in the nation during the second quarter of 2011, according to a new national report released last week!  Brookings Mountain West, a partnership between the Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C. and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Ranking second among the nation’s major metros, Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Weber, Morgan and Davis counties, posted a quarterly job gain of 1.8 percent during the second quarter.  The Provo metro area was first with 1.9 percent in job growth. By comparison, the nation’s overall job gains during the second quarter measured 0.3 percent.

The job gains in the Ogden-Clearfield metro have been sparked largely by growth in the leisure, manufacturing and hospitality industries.  These gains may seem modest, but the figures are telling the condition of the national economy. With Ogden pushing to become an outdoor-recreation equipment-manufacturing hub looks like it’s paying off. Davis County has added about 3,000 acres of property for business sites. Developing this land has created many jobs as well.

When you seem to think things are grim, the old saying that “things may not be as they appear to be” is quite true.

Improving Home Curb Appeal

Friday, August 19th, 2011

Your home’s curb appeal can sometimes make or break a sale.  What can you do?  Below are a few easy and inexpensive steps.

  • Clean up flower beds by weeding.  Trim and prune shrubs.  For a high-end look, add mulch.
  • Invest in pots.  Pots filled with attractive plants can make an entrance classy and a patio or deck inviting.
  • Install landscape lighting, on the path to the front door and perhaps other areas of interest in the front yard.
  • Replace the mailbox with a newer one…you may also plant flowers to decorate its base.
  • If you have a bigger budget, consider replacing the front door.  Studies have shown a 100% return on your investment.
  • And, as always, keep your grass well manicured.  Mowing, edging, and trimming along with fertilizer and proper watering create a fantastic first impression.

I hope these few tips help you as you get ready to put your home on the market.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me for answers to other questions you may have. Helping you sell your home is my first priority.  Together, we will make it happen.

Ogden Ranks 11th in Mass Transit

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

The Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical area is ranked 11th overall based on its share of working-age residents who live near a transit stop, the frequency of transit service and the share of jobs reachable via transit. It includes Weber, Davis and Morgan counties. The Salt Lake City metro area is ranked third and the Provo metro area placed ninth.  This study compared to an average of 69 percent for all 100 metro areas found that 82 percent of the working-age residents in the Ogden-Clearfield metro area live near a mass transit stop such as a bus or light rail. The median wait time is 12.6 minutes during rush hour.  In addition, the study determined that 42 percent of all jobs in the Ogden-Clearfield metro area are reachable via mass transit within 90 minutes.

The Brookings Institution’s study analyze route and schedule information  from 371 transit systems in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas to determine how effective those systems give people access to employment.  The Utah Transit Authority, otherwise known here in Utah as the UTA received high marks from Brookings.

While the economy steadily seems to improve, it’s nice to know that we do have effective access to jobs in the metro area via transit.  Metro areas need to constantly craft comprehensive visions not only for how to create more jobs, but also how to link people to those jobs efficiently. The Wasatch Front is a leader in the country in mass transportation, but we are also one of the more highly polluted corridors.  This has to due mainly with the way the valley is nestled here against the Wasatch Mountains. So it is extremely important that Utah continues to strive to have such high standards in the way we commute and the quality of our air.

Other than just buses and trains, the Utah Transit Authority has been able to provide better job access through creative options.  The UTA operates more than 400 van pools that enable thousands to travel every day to their place of employment.  They also continue to strive to meet the growth of Utah.  Every day we all need to get from point A to point B and the UTA is one of those resources making this possible for us This is another reason why I love to work, play and live here in Ogden, Utah.

Ogden River Project

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

The Ogden River comes down out of the Ogden Canyon and rolls on down past Rainbow Gardens and down along the parkway and it keeps going and going.  There is a $50,000 plan developed by Pittsburgh-based Urban Design Associates.  This plan was unveiled to the public back in January and is awaiting approval from the RDA board which is made up of city council members.

This plan is to have a development that will have 750 housing units, including lofts, apartments, townhomes and single family dwellings.  The master plan also recommends that the project be built in multiple phases by several developers so that housing has a variety of architectural styles including traditional and Victorian. This development would also feature a green space along the Ogden River and a half-acre community garden. As many as 1,400 people could ultimately live within the project area and would also accommodate 25,000 square feet of retail space.

This is just another way that Ogden and it’s people are planning for the future and making Ogden such a great place to live!

Why Buy a Home in the Second Healthiest State?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

imagesca2evy5q

Well, Utah has done it again!!!

What is another reason to buy in Utah, specifically in the Ogden area?

Utah is now the second, after Vermont, “healthiest” state in the nation! I heard it on the nightly news at www.fox13now.com.

I read an article provided by Fobes by Rebecca Ruiz referencing some of the catagories determing the ranking: how many children receive recommended vaccinations, obesity, smoking rates, cancer deaths, number of doctors per capita, low rate of child poverty, public health infrastructure, violent crimes, alcohol consumption, rates of infectious disease, number of preventable hospitalizations, levels of air polution, to name a few.

Last week we were the happiest and now this week we are the healthiest. Way to go UTAH!!!

I feel one of the reasons for being ranked so high as being the healthiest state, but not mentioned, could be all the sport activites locally available. I think I will do a blog on all the sport activities right here in Ogden and the surrounding areas. If you would help me out by letting me know which activites you and/or your family participate in, I would appreciate it. With your input, no sport would be left out. There are a lot of indoor sports as well as outdoor and seasonable sports. Please help me out here because I am not familiar with all the sports and this could be a learning experience for all.

Again, congratulatons Utah and what a great place to live! If you’re are happy and you’re healthy, stamp your feet…
