One of Ogden’s Best Kept Secrets~Powder Mountain

POWDER MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT

Now that the snow has fallen on “them there mountains,” it’s time to blog about ski resorts in Weber County and add to the many reasons why to buy a home in Ogden.

Powder Mountain has received some very good reviews from ski magazines.  Following are the highlights.

Utah.com–”Ski Magazine readers’ survey has ranked Powder Mountain #1 in value and # 3 for snow quality for the 2009 season. This is the third year in a row that Powder Mountain has been in the Top 3 for these criteria. There’s a difference between snow from heaven and artificial snow. Snow purists prefer Ogden’s Powder Mountain Resort, where only genuine, fallen-from-the-sky Utah powder graces its steep slopes.”

http://www.utah.com/ski/resorts/powder_mtn.htm

Ski Utah–”Powder Mountain has consistently earned top ratings for Value and Snow Quality in the SKI magazine reader survey. Don’t tell the locals since they are still convinced this is their own private playground. “Pow Mow” is becoming the “world’s best known secret spot”.

http://www.skiutah.com/winter/members/powder_mountain_resort/resort

Ski Magazine–”Since it’s only 55 miles from Salt Lake City and 19 from Ogden you might expect Powder Mountain to be crowded. After all, it boasts 2800 lift-served acres, 700 acres of cat skiing on Lightning Ridge, a shuttle-served section known simply as Powder Country, and some hike-to terrain in Cobabe Canyon. All told there are about 5500 acres to explore. But Powder Mountain’s expanse and its 40-plus feet of all natural snow(no snowmaking here) play to a small crowd.”

http://www.skinet.com/ski/resorts/powder-mountain-ski-resort

Skiing Magazine–”With last year’s high-speed upgrade of Hidden Lake, you can now access the same acreage as Vail (5,500) for only $53.”

Kinda neat!  Congrats “Pow Mow!”

Why Buy a Home in Ogden? For Sports

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

When it is really hot outside this summer it’s hard to think of winter.  However, some good news was announced this week.

Snowbasin will host the Winter Dew Tour again this coming February.   You probably ask–what is it?  Well, it includes events in men’s and women’s divisions in snowboarding and freeskiing in both superpipe and slopestyle format.  These are very fascinating events to watch in person or on TV.

To make the tour even better, Snowbasin will construct a bigger superpipe.  It will have Olympic-size 22-foot high walls.  Only a few mountains around the world have a 22-foot pipe.

Why is this important to Ogden as well as to Utah?  Because of the dollars generated into the economy during the three day event from athletes, fans, and media folks.

It’s a big deal.  It’s exciting.  It’s fun.  Congratulations and way to go Snowbasin!

Snow Covered Mountains and Ogden, Utah, are in the Spotlight

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

What’s another reason to buy a home in Ogden? A beautiful January night, cool and crisp. Right now,  Ogden is in the spotlight because there are so many  activities to enjoy.

The annual Sundance Film Festival is back in northern Utah.  Park City is the headquarters of the festival and many films are shown at the Perry Egyptian Theater in Ogden.  These independent films try to get backing for theatrical release.  Sometimes, stars can be seen as directors bring cast members.

For NBA fans, the Utah Jazz games are always fun to attend in Salt Lake, which is less than an hour drive.  Right now they are playing well and, Friday night, Hot Rod Huntley will be honored for his legendary voice of the Jazz for 35 years.

If you are into college basketball, Weber State University is also doing well.  The Big Sky honored guard Damian Lillard as player of the week for leading the team to two victorious homes wins.  Coach Randy Rahe and  the Wildcats record of 13-7,7-1 are keeping the team in the top of the league standings midway through the season.

And if you are a skier, night skiing at Powder Mountain should be on the list of things to do.  Snow is great because of the recent series of storms.  Be very careful of venturing out of the groomed trails.  Avalanche danger is very, very high.

These are just a few reasons to buy a home in the Ogden area.  Please contact me to help you find the home you are looking for.  If you thinking of a move, this is a great time to sell because of the tax credits available for buyers.

What’s Another Reason to Buy in the Ogden Area? Snowbasin!

Snowbasin hosted the Wendy’s Invitational – Winter Dew Tour.  An estimated 30,000 people experienced the Winter Dew Tour during the  four day event–Januart 15th through the 17th. The event also included a concert in downtown Ogden.  I wasn’t able to attend, but it sure was fun to watch the competition on the superpipe and slope via TV.

The categories were:  Ski Superpipe Finals, Ski Superpipe Women’s Finals, Freeski Slopestyle Finals, Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle Finals,  and Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle Finals

The final standings may be found at www.snowbasin.com.

Buy a Home in the Ogden Area…to Enjoy Skiing!

The perfect day to ski or snowboard…the morning after a snow storm.   What a beautiful day and doesn’t it take your breath away?

This is Ben Lomand Peak watching over the Ogden area and I have spent my life admiring this gorgeous view.  The more snow and the brighter the blue sky the better.

I remember years ago sitting in the library at Weber State, gazing out the window at this peak, and wishing I was up at Powder Mountain skiing.  Powder Mountian, Snow Basin and Wolf Creek ski resorts are only about 45 minutes away.

One can live at the base of this mountain and look out at the valley.  Or one can live out in neighboring cities and enjoy this impressive and majestic site.  This is the scene I prefer.  One can’t be too sad after catching a glimpse of Ben Lomand Peak–no matter what season of the year.  Of course, the sunsets are spectacular if one lives on the foothills. Either way it’s great!

This  beautiful view and easy access to skiing can be a reality, if it isn’t already.  Interest rates are low, home prices are stablilizing, and with the tax credits, it is a good time to buy or sell. Please let me know how I can help you make the change.

Another Reason to Buy in the Ogden Area–Utah Jazz

Friday, December 11th, 2009

The Ogden Area includes all of Weber county, northern Davis county, and southern Box Elder county.  Cities include Perry, Willard, Pleasant View, North Ogden, Farr West, West Haven, Roy, Clearfield, Clinton, South Weber, Layton, just to name a few.

The  Utah Jazz are located in Salt Lake City and travel time is less than an hour from the Ogden area.  Even on a work or school night, one can be home by 10:30 PM and not lose alot of sleep for the next day.  One of my best memories and funnest times are attending Jazz games, especially in the winter and around Christmas.  The lights are beautiful and the walk from the car to the arena is cold but brisk.   It is fun to listen to the chatter of fans entering and waiting for the game to start.

Last night was very exciting because the Jazz pulled their game together in the fourth quarter and won the visiting Orlando Magic.  I can image how ears were ringing from the high volume of excitement because of the win as fans departed for home.

The Ogden area is fortunate to be so close to NBA basketball.  And with interest rates still low, the tax incentives, and affordable home prices, it is an excellent time to buy or sell if you are thinking of moving or relocating.
