Your Favorite San Jose Real-Estate Blog to Unveil New Look On Upgraded Platform as Market Itself Changes

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Heads up, regular visitors: Your favorite San Jose real estate blog is about to get a major facelift!

I’ve been working with my partners at Inside Real Estate for months to make this happen, and I’m confident you’ll agree with me when the change happens in the next day or so that it was worth the wait.

The design will be cleaner and more elegant. The functionality will be more intuitive and fun. My blog will become a self-contained Web site unto itself, with direct access to MLS property search, my entire collection of video tips for buyers and sellers, and tons of information about the local communities I serve.

One thing won’t change: I will continue to bring you the most insightful analysis of the most creative and in-depth market statistics you’ll find online from any Silicon Valley Realtor – as you should expect from someone who spent nearly three decades as an investigative reporter and business editor before switching to the real-estate game.

After five years of mostly free fall, the San Jose/Silicon Valley real-estate market is changing – and John Bowman San Jose Homes is changing along with it.

As a San Jose real estate advocate, I’ve chosen not to follow the “Ziggers.” I’m going to tell you what you need to know, give you my best advice – and leave the decision up to you.

There’s a Reason My Blog is Full of “Negative News”

Blogging about real estate occasionally requires me to take my readers “Inside the Brain of a Real Estate Agent.”

This is one of those times.

Sometimes a fellow agent asks me how I expect to sell real estate by putting so much “negative news” in my blog. I answer that question with another question: “Are we in business to help our clients with good advice, or to push them into selling or buying a home – even if it’s not the best time – so that we can make more money now?”

That answer doesn’t endear me.

Then again, I pride myself in making JohnBowmanHomes.com a “warts-and-all blog” – a low-spin zone where prospective buyers and sellers can come to read and hear what they need to know, not what they’d like to hear. If you’re looking for positive platitudes, go somewhere else (actually, practically anywhere else when it comes to Realtor Web sites and blogs.)

I peruse online real-estate sites quite often – especially those of individual agents. In the past few months, I’ve seen the same article – “Five Great Reasons Why Now is a Great Time to Sell Your Home” – appear in at least two dozen places. This tells me two things:

1) These agents aren’t even writing their own material; it’s being cranked out either by a ghost writer or some marketing clearinghouse;

2) These agents have a different answer to the question about why we’re in business than I do. (more…)

On more than one occasion, I’ve heard two high-powered listing agents bragging to each other that they never work with buyers, as if that would require getting their hands dirty … here, your San Jose real estate blog explains the difference between a listing agent and a real buyers agent.

So I’m trying to record one of my “1-minute” real estate videos, but my 6-month-old Aussie, Lily, has other ideas. Two-and-a-half minutes later …
