Concerns over the “fiscal cliff” and possible tax hikes have kept demand lower.  Now, it appears there may be additional shortages.

Based on recent events, there has been a massive increase in demand for assault weapons and ammo clips in anticipation of a possible ban.  Since history is known to repeat itself, economists are expecting a possible ban on hammers next due to today’s conviction in Boise, Idaho of this woman who used an assault hammer to kill her mother!

As you can tell, at the time of this writing, this story was already starting to go viral on the internet.  Home Depot and Lowe’s are anticipating brisk sales as people rush out to acquire hammers before possible bans (or registration requirements set in).

Psychologists are being interviewed to see if hammers are actually a gateway to harsher tools like nail guns.

I will be tracking these developments as I have a personal interest in the outcome.  Years ago as a Realtor in Boise, I was checking on the progress of a new home being constructed when I became the victim of a walk by nail gun shooting!  The framer missed the stud and a framing nail shot 20’ and hit me as I was on a public sidewalk.  Fortunately, it hit sideways!

However, the potential buyers are thinking they are inquiring about a new listing when in fact the property isn't even listed for sale (nor has it been recently).  These sites appear to be just trying to post every property they can find in public records online so they show up in the search results more often so they can make more money from their advertisers.
 
Hopefully, consumers will get tired of chasing these fake listings and quite going to these sites as a result.  I know I have heard negative backlash from other potential buyer's that went to some sites then were asked to pay to subscribe through additional companies for foreclosure and pre-foreclosure listings that weren't neccesarily for sale either.
 
I have no problem having data online, but if the websites were supposed to be based on home for sale, that is what they should list.  If they choose to show rentals, have that be a seperate search.  If they choose to show different data, that could be great vertical markets for them, I just wish they would display it as such!
 
For example, here is a property that has not been for sale since 2004.  Here are the top three non sponsored links for that address on Google today:

However, the potential buyers are thinking they are inquiring about a new listing when in fact the property isn't even listed for sale (nor has it been recently).  These sites appear to be just trying to post every property they can find in public records online so they show up in the search results more often so they can make more money from their advertisers.
 
Hopefully, consumers will get tired of chasing these fake listings and quite going to these sites as a result.  I know I have heard negative backlash from other potential buyer's that went to some sites then were asked to pay to subscribe through additional companies for foreclosure and pre-foreclosure listings that weren't neccesarily for sale either.
 
I have no problem having data online, but if the websites were supposed to be based on home for sale, that is what they should list.  If they choose to show rentals, have that be a seperate search.  If they choose to show different data, that could be great vertical markets for them, I just wish they would display it as such!

    I am glad the Council of Multiple Listing Services (CMLS) is working on branding for websites that will show which sites get data feeds from the MLS and are updated daily (or more).  I wish they would require third party vendors to not blend in data that isn't as accurate!

I took the time to click throught their website @ www.greatfamilyhome.com At first, I was surprised someone didn't already capitalize on that URL.  Then, I took the time to read her "Scorned and Bitter blog".  She raised some good points about if someone steals your car, you can collect insurance and they can go to jail, but even thought adultry is one of the ten commandments, it isn't illegal while just in the insurance she lost as a result are just lost.

 

Take the time to check out her website and learn a few things about marketing as I just did!
