Komen Race For The Cure

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

It’s a gorgeous cool (43 degrees), crisp morning in beautiful Austin, TX.  I’m “carbed up” and heading out the door to run the Komen Race for the Cure.  It’s for a wonderful cause and there is always a very big turn out in Austin.  I’m so proud of our RE/MAX Austin Associates office!  We have 10 folks participating this year.  It’s not too late for you to run.  They have timed runners starting at 7:30 am today and rolling start times from 8:00-10:00 for those who are walking, pushing strollers or untimed runners.  I fall into the untimed runner category.  Come on out – it’s for a great cause!

Formula One Racing in Austin, TX

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Austin Formula One auto race organizers announced that the proposed track will be on about 900 acres near Elroy in southeastern Travis County.  But, then in their news conference they said they were still considering other locations. So there is some confusion still on the exact location.

Austin, TX will be the first city in the U.S. to have a facility built specifically for Grand Prix racing. The racing will be held from 2012 to 2021.  The U.S. hasn’t had Formula One racing since 2007 where it had been held for eight years at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The great state of Texas has pledged $25 million annually in support for the event.

The venue will be designed by Tilke, a German firm.  Tilke has built racetracks in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Shanghai and Istanbul as well as some other cities.

“As many Americans know, Austin has earned a reputation as one of the ‘it’ cities in the United States,” stated Tavo Hellmund of Full Throttle Productions. “Austin features that rare combination of ideal geographic location and beauty. Its fine dining, world-renowned hospitality and excellent transportation infrastructure make Austin ideally suited to host and manage an event of this magnitude. Few cities if any in America could rival the connectivity of all these key elements needed for hosting a Formula 1 event as well as Austin.”

Hope you have a great 4th of July!

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

I hope you enjoy the 4th of July.  I’m in an orchestra called the  Hill Country Community Band in Wimberley.  We are playing a patriotic church service tomorrow morning at the 1st Baptist Church in Wimberley, and playing a concert tomorrow evening with some other great groups at the Wimberley fireworks show.  The fireworks display will follow our concert.  It should be a blast (no pun intended).  If you are in the area or want something free and fun to do, drop on by.  If you can’t make it, I hope you’re doing something fun too!  Take care.
