Lake Life in Austin, Texas

As is the case most of the time in life you never can tell what the week will bring you. This week brought us Hermine and around 12 inches of rain in a 36 hour period (give or take depending on where you live in Austin). If you live on Lake Travis you know that this means that you spent this week wondering how all this water would affect you and how many times you are going to have to move your dock.

According to the LCRA website we started the week approximately 17 feet below the full level and we are ending the week at 10 feet below the full level. Which after the multi-year drought we endured over the past couple of summers this is a nice change of pace.

There is always the inevitable clean-up after a deluge such as this, but with the memory so fresh of what is like with no water I think we are all breathing a sigh of relief.

In the 2000 census the Hudson Bend area of Austin listed 2,369 residents, but it is much more than that. It is a quiet community on the outskirts of Austin and Lakeway where the residents relish in their relative anonymity by the lake.  This 6.7 square mile area is host to businesses and families and is served by the Lake Travis ISD which was recently rated exemplary by the Texas Education Agency.
Living in the Hudson Bend area for the past six years has been an enjoyable experience for me and my family. With more than four marinas (West Beach Marina, Emerald Point Marina, Lake Travis Marina, Lake Travis Yacht Club, and Paradise Cove Marina) in the immediate area there is easy access to recreation on the water, local eateries like Los Pinos and Carlos n Charlie’s and watercraft rentals at Just For Fun there is a plethora of options for one to enjoy.
Some areas that may sound familiar to you in your search for homes in the Hudson Bend area include: Hudson Bend Colony, Lakewind, Trail of the Woods, and Commander’s Point.

If you are looking to buy a home in Hudson Bend or sell in this area please give me a call. The following are detail sheets for real estate for sale in the Hudson Bend area.

Consecutive days with over 100 degree temperatures have put a hurt on the Lake Travis water level. During the week of August 9th the water was at 670.88 feet and we are starting this week at 669.6 and the LCRA is predicting that by next week’s end it will be down to 668.50.

Please be sure to check your area’s watering schedule to ensure you are doing your part to conserve water. Most of Austin has been on some type of restricted schedule for most of this year.

The Austin Lake Life

“I don’t do windows”…we’ve all heard it before. I have even said it myself a few times, but when we moved into our new house on lake Travis it took on a whole new meaning. Our home is located in the flood plain of Lake Travis and therefore was built up on cement columns to protect it from the inevitable flood waters that have become the norm for life on the lake in Austin, Texas. This meant that 75% of my windows would require a 40 foot extension (some longer) ladder to be able to clean off the spiders webs, oak pollen and other various things that come with living near a body of water. And I don’t do ladders.

A few years ago a realtor friend recommended Paul the window guy to me when we were putting our first house on the market as part of preparation for the sale. So I decided to give him a call to see if he could help me out with my windows. Paul Drews came to the house and let out a long whistle, “You’ve got yourself one tall house.” Well after some strategerie he formed his plan and that Saturday set about cleaning our windows. We have had him back twice a year ever since. He is on time, efficient and has fair pricing. What more can you ask for from a contractor. You may have seen his truck around Hudson Bend it is bright yellow and says Window Cleaning 320-7575 and nothing more. Simple, just like Paul.

Since this is a real estate blog it is important for me to point out that when you are preparing to sell your home that cleaning your windows inside and out and will be one of the fastest ways to improve the look of your home. It is just amazing and until you’ve done it you can not realize how much of a difference it will make.

A Day Trip From Austin

While out taking updated photos for my listing at 306 Plainview Rd I made a detour into Wimberley. For a Monday afternoon the town was bustling with activity, which is no surprise with all of the eateries and shopping locations that are abundant in Wimberley.

Wimberley is a short drive from Austin and could be a wonderful location for a day trip for you and the family. Wimberley is also host to a weekly (Saturday) market days where they feature local vendors who sell homemade arts & crafts.

I recommend the lemon pie at Wimberley Pie Co. on RR 12.
