The Monterey peninsula has much to offer. The main industry is agriculture, but tourism, education and real estate are all driving forces in the economy. Pebble Beach has no town center but offers world class golf resorts, tranquil forest, incredible Pacific ocean grandeur along 17 Mile Drive in a quiet gated community. Pacific Grove real estate ranging from 300K to several million, offers cottage fixers, ocean front Victorian and many modest choices in between, including condominium, duplexes near town and investment, multi-unit opportunities. Monterey real estate, similar to Pacific Grove in prices, offers warmer weather, a more cosmopolitan downtown and a bit faster pace than its neighbors Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach. Over “the hill” in Carmel real estate is a complex market. The most sought after and expensive within the city limits mostly going over 1 mil. The outlying areas of Carmel real estate offer great and varied choices including panoramic ocean view, larger professional homes, small cottages and single level ranch homes in the Carmel sunbelt. Despite on-going negative real estate news, lower end sales spurred by interest rates and prices have been brisk. This may not be obvious unless you are actively in the market or a Realtor familiar with the local market, but number of choices and amenities are on the decline in many areas. This is one of the subtle signs of an improving market. Simple supply and demand at work. While short sales and market reports of bad real estate market continue, those not active in the market may be missing out by not taking advantage of the low interest rates and declining supply of lower end choices. Inventory of homes for sale in Monterey is down with currently only 66 and only 19 under 500K and of those only 8 are 3 bed 2 bath or more.

Currently 93 homes on the market in Pacific Grove there are only 22 under 500K and only 5 of these are 3 bed 2 bath or greater.
