Timing the market for selling a home in Bettendorf, Iowa, can be tricky.  With the warm winter we experienced in Bettendorf this year, middle-to-upper priced homes in Bettendorf were selling.  As you can see in the graph below, our inventory has decreased quite a bit while some sellers are waiting for spring to put their homes on the market.  Don’t wait!  With a smaller amount of homes for sale in Bettendorf right now, this is the time to be selling a home in Bettendorf!

Trying to decide which city to move to can be a tough decision. The decision can be even harder when you are not familiar with the area. There are so many things to look at and consider when deciding where to move. Are the schools good? Is the neighborhood safe? What about the houses, are they decent, beautiful, falling apart?

Let me help you filter through some of those questions. Bettendorf school district is wonderful. It is a great place to move your family and I feel confident that when you learn a little more you will feel the same as well.

I just wanted to tell you about a little of what is going on at the Bettendorf High School. After reading a recent school newsletter is sounds like the Board of Directors have approved of the $18.3 million in renovations for the High School facilities. We value our education here in Bettendorf and spare no expenses.

The things that they plan on having are a performing arts center and main new entrance.  There will be a student commons area, media center renovation, new health offices, and a new district administration center. These are only some of the things that they are planning on adding!

According to the newsletter “Bettendorf High School recently ranked #11 in the Iowa AP Index for the Top 50 Schools by the University of Iowa’s Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education, the second time it has achieved such an honor since the Belin-Blank Center began rating schools in 2005. In 2009-10, the school year in which AP data was used for the ranking, Bettendorf High School students took a total of 363 Advanced Placement Exams. In 2011, 48 Bettendorf High School students earned AP Scholar designation for their exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement Exams.”

As you can see we pride our self in our children’s education. They are the rising generation. Bettendorf has so much to offer and not just in schools as well. This weekend, February 10-12, is the annual Quad Cities Home Builders Show at the QCCA Expo Center in Rock Island. There will be a circus theme for the 2012 Home Show making it the perfect attraction for families to take a break from the outside cold. The first 250 children through the doors on Saturday and Sunday will get a red clown nose, too!

For many people and for many reasons, buying a home is better than renting a home in Bettendorf, IA.

In many communities, the inventory of houses to rent is limited, whereas there’s likely to be a large variety of houses on the market at many prices. If specific location matters, buying a house is the better way to choose the ideal location than renting a house.

Lifestyle is another major consideration. Owners can modify a house to suit their needs. A popular modification is making a house habitable by someone with disabilities. A renter would not be able to modify a house and a landlord is unlikely to change a house to suit a tenant. If a house needs updating, with new energy-efficient appliances, homeowners will update kitchen and laundry appliance, or put in a new furnace. In many neighborhoods, homeowners are converting to solar power too. Most landlords don’t often buy new appliances for their tenants.

Animal lovers can have pets. Landlords always have to think about keeping a rental property suitable for the next tenant. That often means excluding pets from a house that’s a rental property.

Homeowners call repair personnel as soon as it’s warranted. Depending upon the terms of the lease, a renter might have to call a distant landlord before obtaining permission for a major repair. In parts of the country subjected to severe weather, this can be a tremendous disadvantage.

One of the major reason most people choose to own instead of renting houses in Bettendorf is for the tax deduction. Mortgage interest is deductible, as are property taxes. Modifying a house to be more energy-efficient can be tax-deductible too, depending on the year’s tax codes. The tax advantages are in effect for Federal and state taxes.
