To Spend or Save: Will a Real Estate Agent Save me Money when I sell my Home in Philadelphia, PA?

There is a saying that to make money, you must spend money. The real estate field is no different. However, the difference is that in acquiring a real estate agent, you acquire much more than an additional fee. An informed real estate agent can assist you in the marketing of your home, is knowledgeable of home sale trends in your area, and can advise you on the proper pricing of your home to get it sold in the current conditions for your economy.

In the long run, a real estate agent will end up saving you money by assisting you in selling your home quicker (in most instances, an agent will be able to reach a much larger market, including the Multiple Listing Service), thus reducing liability of a double mortgage payment. In addition, a real estate agent can advise you of potential items that buyers will look for in your home to make it as attractive as possible to potential purchasers. A report in 2002 by Home Sellers indicated that home owners who sold their homes with an agent versus a For Sale By Owner Approach, garnered, on average, a 27% higher selling price.

When selling your home and purchasing a new, there are several things to be taken into consideration, and it often seems that money is being spent faster than it is coming in. However, by hiring an agent to assist with the sale, you will be saving more than you are spending in the long run.
