Country Waterfront on Pine Island in Southwest Florida

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

One of the largest islands off of Florida’s coast, Pine Island is a trip back in time with its small town feel and intriging history. However, there are no white sandy beaches to attract the large tourist population or highrise condos that we all know tend to take away from the natural beauty and flow of a unique place like Pine Island. Surrounded by gorgeous waterfront views, mangroves and aquatic preserves, Pine Island captures the essence of Southwest Florida.

Greater Pine Island is made up of five communities Matlacha, St. James City, Pine Island Center, Pineland and Bokeelia. Matlacha is known as an artist community that attracts residents and visitors alike with their vibrant art galleries and quirky appeal, as well as their great fishing spots. Pine Island Center is the hub of the island serving as a business and community center. You’ll also find a park and historical museum in this crossroads community. Just North is Pineland once home to the Calusa Indians and still home to their historic settlement at Calusa Heritage Trail. Experience what it was like to live like a Calusa Indian and have a chance to climb one of their mounds or witness an archeological dig. A historic lodge and restaurant also attracts visitors to stay or play a round of golf as they enjoy the sites of Pineland. Bokeelia is at the northern tip of  Pine Island. On your way to this quaint town you will pass palm tree and tropical fruit farms, but Bokeelia is especially known for its mangoes. Take part in the mango festival every year in July or stop at any of the local fruit stands to stimulate your taste buds.

At the southern tip, St. James City is the fifth community to make up Greater Pine Island. St. James City is home to fisherman, marinas, waterfront homes, waterfront restaurants and small shops. It is surrounded by the Pine Island National Wildlife Refuge and the Pine Island Aquatic Preserve which consists of 54,000 acres of submerged land. This area offers you all kinds of homes, whether you want a waterfront home on a peaceful canal, a bayfront home, a home nestled in the palms or a spacious vacation home with a pool. You will get a feel for old Florida and a small town environment that is peaceful, yet entertaining with its attractions and people. St. James City is full of options right now with 88 available homes and homesites. Beautiful homesites are going for as low as 15,000. Available ready-to-move-in homes are starting at $109K for 1319 sqft.

St. James City and Greater Pine Island are gorgeous places to live that will inspire your life. Find your new home in a small town paradise!

Escape to Matlacha, Florida: Experience a Bit of Old Florida

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Matlacha (Mat-la-shay) is known to local fishermen as the hottest fishing spot in Southwest Florida and to vacationers, it is known as a small-town paradise. This gorgeous little island is an historic fishing village and artist community. It is a place where island-life meets friendly residents, great fishing, amazing seafood, and quorky, yet creative attractions. You will get a feel for the quaint, old-Florida life that created the history of Matlacha.

“The story goes that a while back two fellows were hired to pace off building lots east of the bridge across Matlacha Pass. One stood a mere 5’3″, the other towered 6’4″. No surprise that folks at the bait shops, cottages and gallaries along the road’s north side can gossip by leaning out their windows, while to the south, a friendly chat might mean having to walk a spell to a neighbor’s porch.” – Herb Miller

Daily life on Matlacha is filled with breathtaking views, vibrant buildings, palm trees, sea breezes, fishing stories, passing sails, mellow attitudes, beautiful wildlife and  a special camaraderie only found in a small town.

The homes on Matlacha vary from vibrant to neutral, one story to two stories, fishing cottages to gorgeous mansions, 1bed/1bath to 5bed/5bath, 640 to 5612 sq ft and historic to newly built. Find the house right for you within a pricing range of $134K to $2.1 million.

Matlacha is located  West of Cape Coral and minutes from Pine Island. It is this drive that will take you over the Matlacha Pass which is acknowledged as “the fishingest bridge in the world”;  just one of the many benefits of living in Matlacha.

Go experience the uniqueness of Matlacha and don’t be surprised if you decide to make it your new home!
