South Venice


South Venice is bordered by the Intracoastal Waterway on the north and west, by Routes 41 and 776 on the east, and Manasota Beach Rd on the south.  Originally platted for mobile homes each lot is 40 ft. X 100 ft., The zoning was changed allowing only single family homes to be built on a minimum of two lots. The houses have been built over time since the original development began in the early 1950s so you will find a wide variety of architectural styles.

South Venice is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by a narrow strip of Lemon Bay. Prior to construction of the Intracoastal Waterway in the 1960s, the residents of South Venice had beach access via a wooden bridge that connected the South Venice mainland to the northern portion of Manasota Key. When the Army Corps of Engineers removed the bridge, the residents had a bridge “sit on” to have their beach access restored. Now a ferry service takes South Venice residents back and forth to the beach. The ferry runs 6 days a week with one day a week reserved for maintenance. The trip is a short one, of approximately 1,000 feet carrying you to the pristine and private beach.  There is also a community boat ramp right off the intercostals.
