The Coconut Grove Arts Festival has come & gone but it marks not only the largest out-door art festival in the country but also the anniversary of Coconut Grove’s newest icon, Silly Monkeys Playhouse. Owner/Director Georgia Corbin is a celebrety in the fastest growing demographic in Coconut Grove – Toddlers under 5 years of age. Since Silly Monkeys Playhouse opened 1 year ago, Georgia can not walk around Coconut Grove without one of her satisfied followers stopping her on the street. They may not be able to talk in complete sentences but they know her and shout Monkey or Mono or any other synonym for the word.
Silly Monkeys Playhouse offers a well rounded package of Music, Art & Play. Silly Monleys Playhouse integrates 20 minutes of Music, 20 minutes of Art & 20 minutes of Play into one tidy class. Need a quick fix and/or save time & money? Try these household tips.
CRAYON MARKS ON WALLS – damp rag dipped in backing soda. be careful not to rub too hard or for too long. The Baking Soda is a mild abrasive.
WINDOW WASHING – Use vertical stokes on outside of glass & horizontal strokes on inside. Then you know which side has streaks.
SCENTED LIGHT BULBS – MAKE SURE LIGHT BULB IS NOT HOT. Spray a little perfume or cologn on a COOL light bulb. When the light is on, it will warm & give off a nice smell.
ICE CREAM CONE DRIPS – Stuff a miniture marshmallow in a cone BEFORE you add the ice cream.
POTATOES BUDDING? – Add an apple in the drawer/bag of potatoes to keep them from budding.
BAKING A CAKE – If recipe calls for dusting the pan with flour, use a little of the cake mix instead to avoid the white mess.
SALTY SOUP OR STEW – Add a cut up peeled potato to the pot. It will absorb the salt.
HARD BROWN SUGAR – Place a slice of apple in it to soften.
FRESH EGGS – To determine if an egg is fresh, imerse an egg in a pan of cool, salted water. If it floats sinks it is fresh. If it rises, throw it away.
CLEANING VASES & THERMOS BOTTLES – fill with water & drop in 2-4 alka-seltzer tablets & let sit for an hour or so.
ICY STEPS – In South Florida? It could happen… once - Mix Dawn Dish soap in warm water & pour it over the steps.
